12 NCP leaders and activists resign
12 leaders and activists, including Sheikh Ali Hossain, the chief coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) Bagerhat Sadar Upazila branch, have resigned simultaneously. They officially announced their resignation through a press conference organized at the Bagerhat Press Club this Sunday (January 11) afternoon.
In a written statement at the press conference, Sheikh Ali Hossain said that as a retired army member, he was serving as the chief coordinator of the NCP’s Bagerhat Sadar Upazila branch from June 3, 2025 to January 11, 2026.
He said, ‘The journey of the National Citizens’ Party began with the promise of the 2024 mass uprising and the firm determination to build a new Bangladesh. Its fundamental inconsistency with the current political context and equation has become apparent. I think his path with the party is no longer possible because the dream of a new compromise and ideological politics is not being reflected in reality.’
He also said, ‘My personal and political philosophy has come into conflict with the current political position of the NCP. That is why I have resigned from the post of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Chief Coordinator of the NCP from today.’
However, as an army member, even if he is not a member of the NCP, he will serve for the welfare of the country and the nation throughout his life. At that time, he also said that 11 more leaders and activists of the party have decided to resign in solidarity with him.
They are – Joint Coordinator Kazi Mahfuzur Rahman, members Ashiqur Rahman Sumon, Sheikh Russell, Sheikh Mizanur Rahman, Md. Hasan Sheikh, Md. Shahidul Islam, Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Sheikh Nabil Hossain, Md. Johnny, Munia Akter Jenny and Md. Ratul Ahsan. This resignation has created discussions and various reactions in the local political arena.
