Explosion at Akij Cement Factory in Narayanganj, 8 Burned

Eight people were burnt in an air compressor explosion at the Akij Cement Factory in Bandar, Narayanganj. The accident occurred inside the factory in Ekrampur area of ​​Bandar upazila at around 9 pm on Saturday (January 10). The names of 7 of the burnt people have been initially known. They are Md. Hannan (45), Md. Manjur (28), Md. Habib (43), Md. Rakibul (25), Md. Khorshed (35), Tarek (26) and Ferdous (35).
According to relevant sources, an air compressor machine of the Akij Poly Fiber unit used to make cement bags inside the Akij Cement Factory suddenly exploded. It is believed that the explosion occurred when high-temperature air accumulated inside the machine. However, the specific cause of the explosion was not initially known.
After the explosion, 8 workers inside the factory were burnt. They were quickly rescued and sent to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Port Fire Service Station In-charge Sanjay Khan said that the company’s own management brought the fire under control before the fire service reached the spot. In the meantime, the injured have also been sent to the hospital. He said, “The cause of the explosion is not initially known. The matter will be investigated.” Meanwhile, National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery doctor Sohan Akij confirmed that 8 people were burned at the cement factory and said that they are undergoing treatment. However, the extent of each burn can be said after dressing.
