US Attack: Iran Pledges to Stand by Venezuela

Tehran has strongly condemned the US military operation in Venezuela and reiterated its unwavering support for the country. Recently, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto discussed the situation in the aftermath of the US attack in a telephone conversation. During the talks, the Iranian Foreign Minister called the US attack on Venezuelan sovereignty and the kidnapping of the country’s legitimate president and his wife a clear example of ‘state terrorism.’
Abbas Araghchi said that this US move is a gross insult not only to Venezuelan sovereignty, but also to the national will of the country’s people. He expressed strong solidarity with the elected government and people of Venezuela on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto expressed gratitude for Iran’s principled position and solidarity.
In a telephone conversation, Pinto stressed that the Venezuelan government and people are determined to defend their national sovereignty and right to self-determination in the face of the illegal and threatening policies of the United States. After Washington’s recent actions provoked strong reactions worldwide, Iran once again called US policies in Latin America a violation of international law and national sovereignty. Iran has long been critical of US interventionist policies in South America and has pledged to stand by them in the current crisis in Venezuela.
