Robbery of 30 bhors of gold by tying his face
A gold merchant has been accused of robbing a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Lakshmipur of about 30 bhors of gold ornaments by tying his face. The incident took place on Saturday (January 3) evening in Piarapur area of Bhabaniganj union of Sadar upazila. The victim, Shuvo Poddar, is the owner of Welcome Jewelers in Hazir Hat Bazar of Kamalnagar upazila. He said that Shuvo Poddar went to Chandraganj Bazar of Sadar upazila with about 40 bhors of gold. There, he sold 10 bhors of gold to a goldsmith’s shop. He left Chandraganj with a check of Tk 21 lakh for the sale of the gold and the remaining 30 bhors of gold.
At the time of the incident, he was going to Hazir Hat from the district town in an unknown auto-rickshaw. An unknown woman and a man got on with him as passengers. When he reached Piarapur area on the way, the unknown woman and man tied his face. At one point, the gold trader complained that about 30 bhoris of gold he had was stolen. However, he had a gold sale check worth Tk 21 lakh in his pocket. He also said that the miscreants did not take it. After receiving the information, the police visited the spot and are reportedly trying to collect CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
District Bajus President Sameer Karmakar said that those involved in the gold theft should be arrested immediately. Gold traders are suffering from insecurity in this incident. Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Wahid Parvez said, “Police were sent to the spot after receiving information. Investigation is underway. Police are working on this matter.”
