NCP candidate Ahmedur withdraws from Narayanganj-5 constituency election
Ahmedur Rahman Tonu, the nominated candidate of the National Citizen Party (NCP) for Narayanganj-5 (Sadar-Bandar) constituency and the party’s central member, has announced his withdrawal from the 13th National Parliament election. In a statement on Sunday (December 28) night, he said that he has decided to participate in the election as a National Citizen Party with the dream and expectation of building a new Bangladesh. His political journey began with his commitment to the country, faith in democracy and a sincere desire to work for the welfare of the people.
However, in view of the current political reality and personal considerations, he has said that he is withdrawing from the decision to participate in the election as an NCP. He clearly said, ‘This is completely his personal and political decision. There is no adverse attitude towards any person, group or party behind this.’
Ahmedur Rahman Tonu said, ‘Despite differences in opinions and paths, there is always an opportunity to work in the interest of the country. In the future too, I will continue to work politically from my position to establish democracy, justice and the rights of the people.’
He further said, ‘The way people have supported him and seen him working for them for the past one and a half years, he will continue to support them in the future as well.’ He said that although he is withdrawing from the elections, considering the current political situation, he is not leaving the party. In the last part of the statement, he expressed optimism and said, ‘I am withdrawing from the elections, but not from the current party. The future will be ours – InshaAllah.’
Meanwhile, the National Citizens Party (NCP) has officially become a part of the electoral alliance and compromise of eight like-minded parties including Jamaat-e-Islami. Before and after the formal announcement of the alliance with Jamaat, two NCP leaders resigned. They are the party’s joint convener Tajnuva Jabin and the party’s senior joint member secretary Tasneem Zara. In addition, Naogaon-5 constituency MP candidate and party’s joint convener Monira Sharmin and Advocate Manzila Jhuma, organizer of the central committee of the National Citizens Party (NCP) for the southern region, have announced their withdrawal from participating in the elections in favor of the NCP. And the party’s joint convener, Nusrat Tabassum, has announced to remain inactive in all party activities during the election period.
