1 killed in clash over land in Rajbari
Four people were injured in a clash between cousins over a land dispute in Baliakandi, Rajbari. A farmer named Habib Sheikh (42) was killed in the incident. It is learnt that Habib Sheikh is the son of Liakat Sheikh of Bongram in Nababpur Union of Baliakandi Upazila.
Shariful Sheikh (35), Tokon Sheikh (32) son of Manju Sheikh of the same village, Jamal Uddin Sheikh (60) son of Abed Ali Sheikh and Rakib Sheikh (27) from the other side were injured. The injured have been admitted to Baliakandi Hospital. Among them, Jamal Uddin Sheikh has been referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The clash took place at around 10 pm today (December 23) in Bangdubi Beel area of Nababpur Union of Baliakandi Upazila.
Shariful Sheikh, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said, “Habib Sheikh was driving my power tiller. He had an argument with his cousin Jamal Uddin Sheikh over a plot of land. At this time, he beat me and my brother Tokon Sheikh. Habib came forward and fell to the ground. Later, when he was brought to the hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead. It is believed that he may have died of a heart attack.” Baliakandi Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Faruk Hossain said, “Shariful Sheikh and Tokon Sheikh brought Habib Sheikh to the hospital after the fight. Habib Sheikh died before being brought to the hospital. However, the exact cause of death is not yet known.” Baliakandi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdur Rob Talukder told us, “Four people were injured in the land dispute. During this time, a farmer died. It is not yet possible to say whether he died of a heart attack or in the clash. The matter is under investigation. Police have been deployed.”
