130 kidnapped students released in Nigeria
130 schoolchildren and several staff members of a Catholic school in Niger state, central Nigeria, have been released. The British media outlet BBC News reported this information in a report on Monday (December 22).
The country’s administration made the announcement yesterday (December 21). It said that no one is now being held captive. Armed gunmen attacked a Catholic school last November. Since then, 315 students and school staff have been missing. However, 100 were released earlier this month. However, it is not yet clear whether all of them have been released. Because it is not certain how many were kidnapped.
Many had fled at the time of the incident. And since many of them live in remote areas, it has not been possible to find them. Therefore, it is believed that all were released in two stages. This is the latest in a series of targeted attacks on educational institutions and religious places in the north and central parts of the country. There have been kidnappings and killings at other schools and churches in the days leading up to November.
