South African street shooting: 10 dead

At least 10 people were killed and 10 injured in a shooting in a small town in Johannesburg, South Africa, AFP reported on Sunday (December 21), citing Johannesburg police. The incident took place in Bakersdale, 40 kilometers southwest of Johannesburg.
A police statement said that unidentified gunmen shot several people indiscriminately on the street. Local police have already launched an investigation into the incident. “Ten people have been killed in the attack. We have no information on the number of casualties. At least 10 people were injured in the attack and have been taken to hospital,” said Brigadier Brenda Muridile, a spokesperson for the Gauteng provincial police.
It is not yet clear who is behind the attack. Police said no arrests have been made in the incident. However, a search has been launched to find the attackers. It is worth noting that crime has increased in South Africa in recent times. Earlier, on December 6 of this month, 12 people, including a three-year-old child, were killed in a gun attack at a hostel near the capital, Pretoria.
