Youth who threatened Hannan Masud arrested
Hatia police have arrested a youth on charges of threatening to kill Abdul Hannan Masud, the senior joint chief coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and the candidate of the Shapla Kali symbol from Noakhali-6 (Hatia) constituency. He was arrested from Nandoro area of Ward No. 6 of Charishwar Union in Hatia Upazila of Noakhali at around 11:30 pm on Saturday (December 20). The arrested youth is named Israt Raihan Ami. He is the son of former UP Chairman of Charishwar Union Abdul Halim Azad.
According to police sources, there are three cases against the arrested Israt Raihan Ami at Hatia Police Station. The police also said that he had been trying to create tension in the area in various ways for a long time. The incident began on Friday night (December 19). At that time, Israt Raihan Ami sent a highly provocative and threatening message to an NCP worker through messenger. In the message, he mentioned that if there is an attempt to arrest former chairman Abdul Halim Azad, then the movement of Hannan Masud, Tanvir and other leaders of the northern region will be made ‘haram’. The message further stated in threatening language – ‘Our leaders and activists will be swallowed directly.’
A post went viral on social media from a Facebook ID named ‘Rupak Nandi’ last Thursday (December 18) night. In that post, it was written directly targeting Hannan Masud, Hannan, don’t play with fire. I will tell you later – I told you. The post also said that those who love former chairman Abdul Halim Azad will not spare Hannan Masud. It was even threatened to ban Hannan Masud from Hatia if Halim Azad was arrested.
These threats and provocative statements created extreme anxiety and tension in the area. After the matter came to the attention of the law enforcement agencies, the police quickly conducted a raid and arrested the accused. In this regard, Hatia Police Station OC Saiful Alam told us, Israt Raihan Ami has been arrested in the operation. Legal action is being taken against her. He also said that those who try to disrupt the law and order situation through social media or make direct provocative statements will be identified and brought to justice.
