Awami League leader and 2 others arrested

Police have arrested Md. Jahirul Haque Jibon (48), the president of the banned organization Awami League’s Barakhapan Union branch, and Md. Badsha Mia (51), the former president of Lengura Ward No. 7 Jubo League, in a case under the Explosives Act in Kalmakanda, Netrokona. They were arrested in separate raids on Wednesday (December 17) night.
Police sources said that based on a secret tip-off, the police conducted raids in Lengura and Barakhapan areas of the upazila last night. At that time, Md. Jahirul Islam Jibon, the president of Barakhapan Union Awami League, and Md. Badsha Mia, the former president of Lengura Ward Jubo League, were arrested. Kalmakanda Police Station OC Md. Siddiq Mia said that they have been arrested in a case under the Explosives Act and other sections. The arrested will be sent to the Netrokona court on Thursday afternoon.
