More than 50 injured in clashes between BNP factions

At least 50 people were injured in clashes between BNP factions in Magura’s Sadar Upazila. The incident took place in Ramnagar village of Hazrapur Union of the upazila on Monday (December 8). Police have detained six people in the incident.
According to local sources and the injured, on Saturday (December 6) afternoon, supporters of BNP leader Matiar Rahman of Hazrapur Union and supporters of Shahidul Mandal had an argument over political dominance. At one point, it turned into a clash. Azizul Islam alias Azizar Rahman (38) was seriously injured in this.
He was first admitted to the Magura 250-bed hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he died on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital last Sunday. Due to Azizul’s death, the two sides clashed again in Ramnagar area yesterday.
At least 50 people from both groups were injured in the clash, including Farid Molla (45), Asadul (42), Ruhul (40), Abdul Mandal (50), Saheb Ali (32), Wakil Uddin (42), Sajjad Hossain (45), Sajedul Islam (57), Salman (32), Muktar Mandal (54), Saheb Ali (35), Ujjwal Mandal (35), Taleb Mandal (82), Turfan Mandal (47), Awal Mandal (62), Bachchu Mandal (55), Nannu Mandal (40), Azil Mandal (45), Ariful Islam (40) and Idris Ali (43). The injured are undergoing treatment at the 250-bed Sadar Hospital in Magura. Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ayub Ali told us that additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation. Six people have been arrested in the incident. The situation is currently under control.
