Wife and mother-in-law seriously injured in ex-husband’s attack

A wife and mother-in-law were seriously injured in a sharp knife attack by her ex-husband in Madan, Netrokona. The incident took place in public in front of the Madan Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday (November 2) at around 12 noon. Former drug addict Fahim Mia (28) stabbed his ex-wife and mother-in-law with a sharp knife in front of the Upazila Health Complex and fled. On the night of the incident, the victim’s father Nayan Mia (50) filed a case with the Madan Police Station, where her ex-husband Fahim (28) has been made the main accused.
According to the complaint and the victim’s family sources, two years ago, Nayan Mia, a daughter of Kadamsri village in Govindashri union, got married to Fahim, son of Rokon Uddin of Ward No. 4 of Master Para of Madan Municipality. They also have a seven-month-old daughter. The torture and oppression on Kali Akhter began after the marriage.
Unable to bear the torture of her drug-addicted husband, the victim (wife) Koli Akhter herself was forced to send a divorce notice to her husband Fahim through the Netrokona Code Court. Last Tuesday, Koli Akhter and her mother Shilpi Akhter (45) were brought to the Upazila Health Complex for the illness of their 7-month-old child.
Later, as soon as they reached the Upazila Health Complex after seeing a doctor, ex-husband Fahim Mia attacked his wife Koli Akhter and mother-in-law with a sharp knife, resulting in serious bloody injuries.
In this incident, the victim Koli Akhter said, “Fahim and his grandfather Saiful Islam (70) have been torturing me for dowry since they got married. Unable to bear his torture, I have gone home many times and convinced my mother and father to bring Tk 1 lakh.” She said, “We are poor people. Where will we get money for him again and again? Unable to bear his torture, I was forced to divorce him, so he hacked my mother and me in front of Madan Hospital, leaving bloody wounds. I am demanding justice through the law.” Currently, the victim, Koli Akhter, and her mother are undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.
