What ACC lawyer said about the verdict of Hasina-Rehana-Tulip’s imprisonment

17 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and daughter Tulip, have been sentenced to various terms in a case filed on charges of taking plot allocation. However, the verdict did not go as expected, said Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khan Md. Moinul Hasan.
Judge Md. Rabiul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-4 announced the verdict at around 11 am today (December 1). The court sentenced British MP Tulip Siddique to two years in prison, ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to five years in prison and her sister Sheikh Rehana to seven years in prison. The other 14 accused in the case were sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Immediately after the verdict, ACC lawyer Moinul Hasan reacted to reporters at the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court premises. He said, “We will discuss the verdict with the ACC and give our reaction to the verdict. The verdict did not go as expected.” We wanted the maximum punishment, life imprisonment.’
Regarding the return of Tulip and other accused, Mainul Hasan said, ‘Interpol’s help will be sought to bring them back from the countries where the accused are absconding.’ Tulip is a Bangladeshi citizen on the one hand, and a British citizen on the other. They will inform the Foreign Ministry to bring him back. They said that they will complete the process of Bangladeshi law through the government.
