Severe flooding in four Asian countries — death toll exceeds 900

Floods across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia have killed nearly 1,000 people in less than a week. Sri Lanka and Indonesia have deployed military personnel to help victims of the devastating floods.
The UN relief and relief agency said nearly a million people in 25 districts of Sri Lanka have been affected by the floods. More than 180,000 people from 51,000 families have taken shelter in 1,094 government shelters.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency has issued a forecast of heavy rains in most parts of the country. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in various parts of the affected countries.
