3 killed in clash over land dispute in Kurigram

Three people, including a woman, were killed in a clash between two parties over a land dispute in Nageshwari, Kurigram. The incident took place at around 12 noon today, Sunday (November 30) in Pashuvarti Santoshpur Union of Nageshwari Upazila. The deceased have been identified as Altaf Hossain (50), Ershad Ali (35) and Kulsum Begum (50). At least 10 people were injured in the incident. The deceased are residents of Hailatari village of Santoshpur Union. Nageshwari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim Reza confirmed this information.
Police said that Altaf Hossain and Nur Mohammad Manik Ulya have been in a long-standing dispute over a 16th-century land in Chilakhana village of Santoshpur Union. Both are said to be cousins. The clash between the two parties started around 12 noon today over cutting ripe paddy on the disputed land. Nur Mohammad’s supporters Ershad and Kulsum were killed on the spot. The seriously injured Altaf Hossain was taken to Nageshwari Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
OC Rezaul Karim Reza said, “We have gone to the spot, and efforts are being made to arrest those involved in the incident.” Kurigram Superintendent of Police and Nageshwari Police visited the spot.
