Mother commits suicide after killing two children

A mother committed suicide in Bogra after slitting her two children’s throats. The incident took place in Kholashakandi village of Khottapara union in Shajahanpur upazila of Bogra on Tuesday (November 25) morning. Shajahanpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam confirmed this information.
It is learnt that the deceased are Sadia Mostarim (24), wife of Shahadat Hossain of Khalisha Kandi village, and their two children Saifa (4) and Saif (2). Police and locals said that between 8 am and 8:30 am today, Mostarim hanged herself by hanging her two children with a stick. After that, she committed suicide by tying a veil around her neck. Mostarim’s husband Shahadat Hossain was sleeping in the next room at the time. Shahadat Hossain is an army member. He is working in Mymensingh. It is learnt that he had come home on leave a week ago.
The neighbours informed the police after learning about the incident. Police recovered a blood-stained cloth from the house. In addition, the bodies of three people have been recovered and sent to the morgue of Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shajahanpur Police Station Shafiqul Islam said, “Shahadat Hossain’s family includes a wife, children and a sick elderly mother. Initially, it is believed that this incident may have happened due to family unrest. Shahadat Hossain has been taken into police custody to unravel the real mystery. He is also mentally broken. We will question him to see if he is somewhat normal.”
