6 workers burnt at Bashundhara Cement Factory in Narayanganj
At least 6 workers were burnt after coal spilled in the boiler room of the Bashundhara Group’s cement factory in Bandar, Narayanganj. Abdullah Al Arefin, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that the incident took place at the Bashundhara Cement Factory in Madanganj of the upazila on Saturday (November 22) evening.
He said, “We were not informed by the factory at first. Later, when we came to know about it and contacted them, the factory authorities said that while storing coal in the furnace of the boiler room, hot coal spilled and fell on some workers. Six people were burnt in this.” He added, “Although the coal spilled on them, there was no fire. As a result, they did not inform us. Details will be given after the investigation.” The injured have been brought to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital, said Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman.
He said, “All six people have difficulty breathing.” He added, “The injured Nahid Islam (22) has 40 percent burns, Tajul Islam (35) has 12 percent burns, Torab Ali (55) has 16 percent burns, Atiqur Rahman (44) has 27 percent burns, Kamrul Hasan (45) has 26 percent burns and Ferdous (35) has 10 percent burns and they have been admitted to the Burn Institute.” Abdur Rahim, the factory’s senior executive (admin), said on his mobile phone, “Six workers in the front were burned after hot coal spilled around 6:15 pm. They were immediately brought to the hospital under the supervision of the factory.”
