Earthquake kills 7 in 3 districts
A 5.7-magnitude earthquake was felt in various districts of the country, including Dhaka. Seven people were reported dead across the country in this earthquake that originated in Madhabadi, Narsingdi. The earthquake struck at 10:38 am on Friday (November 21).
Three pedestrians were killed when a railing collapsed in Bangshale in Old Dhaka in the capital. In addition, two were killed in Narayanganj and two in Narsingdi. More than fifty people were injured in the incident and many are panicking.
3 people died in the capital
Three people were killed when the railing of a 5-storey building collapsed in Bangshale, Old Dhaka. DMP Lalbagh Division Deputy Police Commissioner Mallik Ahsan Uddin confirmed the matter around 11:30 am yesterday. It is reported that a child is among the three people who died when the railing collapsed. However, the names and identities of the deceased were not immediately known.
2 people died in Narayanganj
A woman died when a wall collapsed in Rupganj Upazila due to the earthquake. His daughter was injured in the incident. A child named Fatema (1) died when a tin roof collapsed in the same upazila due to the earthquake. The child’s mother Kulsum Begum and neighbor Jasmine Begum were injured in the incident. In addition, many people were injured in the district.
2 people killed in Narsingdi
A child named Omar (10) died when the roof of a house collapsed in the Gabtoli area of Sadar upazila of Narsingdi, the epicenter of the earthquake. His father Delwar Hossain Ujjal was seriously injured in the incident.
An old man named Kazam Ali (75) died when an earthen wall collapsed in the same upazila due to the earthquake. This incident took place in Malita village of Palash in the district. In addition, at least 55 people were injured in the district due to the earthquake. Of these, 3 people were injured when the roof railing collapsed.
