Bus catches fire due to mosquito coil fire
A bus kept in a garage for repair in Lakshmipur caught fire. The fire service and police suspect that the fire may have started from a ‘mosquito coil’. Earlier, on Wednesday (November 19), a Nipu Transport bus met with an accident at Didar’s garage in Iterpul area of Lakshmipur Municipality. However, the police said that no complaint had been filed with the police station in this incident till noon.
Police and fire service sources said that the bus had been undergoing repair work at Didar’s garage for a few days. The vehicle suddenly caught fire in the morning. Upon receiving the information, a unit of the fire service tried to control the fire for about 20 minutes. In the meantime, various parts including the bus’s chairs were burnt.
The owner of the vehicle, Mostafizur Rahman Swapan, said, ‘The vehicle was given for repair a few days ago. This vehicle was my only source of income. Most of the vehicle was burnt in the fire.’ I have suffered a loss of 18 lakh taka. I also gave the garage owner 1.5 lakh taka to repair the car.
He hopes to get compensation with the exact reason after investigating the incident. Confirming the matter, Laxmipur Fire Service Station Officer Ranjit Kumar Saha said, “It is believed that the fire started from a mosquito coil. No other reason was found. Various parts inside the car, including the seat, were burnt. We were able to bring the fire under control after trying for about 20 minutes.”
Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Jhalak Mohant said, “The police have spoken to the people of the garage and those concerned. The incident is being investigated.” Laxmipur Additional Superintendent of Police Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi said, “According to the information received from the fire service, the incident occurred from a mosquito coil. We are investigating the incident seriously. Details will be announced after the investigation is completed.”
