International Crimes Tribunal Proves Crimes Against Humanity of Three Including Hasina
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun have been found guilty of crimes against humanity. This was stated in the verdict of the International Crimes Tribunal today (November 17).
The three-member judicial panel of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumder, began reading the verdict after 12 noon today. Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the other two accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. Among them, former IGP Mamun has given a statement as a ‘royal witness’.
Last Thursday (November 13), the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, set this date for announcing the verdict in the case. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury. Earlier, on June 1, the state filed a formal complaint against Sheikh Hasina and the three accused in the tribunal. The formal complaint brought a total of five charges against the three accused.
The charges are – Sheikh Hasina’s provocative speech at a press conference held at Ganabhaban on July 14 last year; ordering the use of helicopters, drones and lethal weapons to eliminate protesters; shooting dead Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur; shooting dead six protesters in the capital’s Chankharpul area and burning six people in Ashulia. The tribunal framed formal charges against the three accused on July 10 on these five charges. Accused Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan are absconding. The only accused arrested in the case is former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
