Dhaka-Khulna highway blocked in Faridpur, traffic stopped
Awami League leaders and activists blocked the highway at Shuadi bus stand and Pukhuria area of Bhanga upazila in Faridpur over the lockdown. Today, Thursday (November 13), at around 6 am, they stopped traffic by planting trees and burning tires near Shuadi pump in Algi union and in Pukhuria area of Bhanga upazila. This caused long traffic jams on both sides of the highway and ordinary passengers suffered.
According to police and local sources, some leaders and activists took positions on the highway since early morning in support of the lockdown. Later, many more joined and the entire highway was blocked. This created a tense situation in the area.
At that time, some empty ambulances bound for Dhaka were sent back. However, locals said that ambulances with patients were allowed to go. Bhanga Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Rakibuzzaman confirmed the matter and said, “Due to the lockdown, there has been a highway blockade at Shuadi Bus Stand and Pukhuria areas of Bhanga Upazila on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway. Traffic movement on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway is closed until 10 am. After receiving the information, the police and army are trying to normalize the situation at the scene.”
