Torchlight clash in paddy field, at least 15 injured in Brahmanbaria
At least 15 people were injured in a clash between residents of two villages over a football game in Sarail, Brahmanbaria. The dispute took place on Friday (November 7) between people from Dakshin Arifail and Fakirhati villages in the upazila’s Sadar. As a result, a clash broke out between them in the evening under torchlight. The injured have been given first aid.
Police and locals said that children and teenagers from Dakshin Arifail and Fakirhati villages were playing football in a field in Fakirhati village in the afternoon. At one stage of the game, a boy from Fakirhati village beat up Mamun, son of Tara Mia from Dakshin Arifail village. As a result, people from the two villages got involved in a clash in the paddy field with tents and spears, including indigenous weapons.
During the clash, brickbats were thrown and chased between the two sides, which spread panic in the area. At least 15 people from both sides were injured in the clash. Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Alam told us that after receiving information, the police reached the spot and brought the clash under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area due to fears of another clash. Legal action is being taken in the incident.
