Mymensingh-3: Train blockade, hartal threat over non-nomination
Supporters of Ahmed Taibur Rahman Hiron, who was denied nomination for the Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur) seat, blocked the Dhaka-bound intercity Haor Express train and staged a protest march. They blocked the railway track and took a position in front of the train on Tuesday (November 4) morning.
Station Master of Gouripur Junction Shafiqul Islam said that supporters of Ahmed Taibur Rahman Hiron, who was denied nomination, created a blockade on the railway track from 9:35 am. Railway police arrived and brought the situation under control. The train was stuck at the station for 37 minutes. After the nomination was announced, supporters of Upazila BNP convener Ahmed Taibur Rahman Hiron held a protest march and rally on Monday evening.
At 11 am today, Municipal BNP member secretary Sujit Kumar said, “If Ahmed Taybur Rahman Hiron is not nominated, we will be forced to observe a strict program like a hartal.” Later, in a protest rally, Ahmed Taybur Rahman Hiron’s wife Saida Masrur said, “I have not been able to sleep peacefully with my husband for 17 years. During the July movement, my husband was in jail and I was in the movement with my daughter.” Other speakers at the protest rally included Upazila BNP joint convener Shahjahan Siraj, North District Volunteer Dal joint convener Mazharul Islam Pratyay, former College Chhatra Dal president Shahjahan Akand Sumon, Upazila Chhatra Dal joint convener Kamrul Islam Pias, among others.
