Government cancels music and physical education teacher posts in primary schools

In the face of criticism, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has canceled the newly created music teacher posts in government primary schools. In addition, the physical education teacher post has also been canceled. By excluding these two posts, a new gazette has been published by amending some words in the ‘Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules-2025’. According to the revised rules, the teacher posts have now been restricted to two categories.
Masud Akhtar Khan, Additional Secretary, School Department, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, confirmed the matter on Monday (November 3) afternoon. He said that the gazette of the revised rules was published yesterday, Sunday (November 2). In the previous rules, the post of music and physical education teacher was included among the four types of assistant teacher posts. However, these two posts have been excluded in the new version.
In addition, a word has been corrected in the rules. In the previous version, it was said that 20 percent of the posts in teacher recruitment were reserved for those with a bachelor’s degree in science and 80 percent of the posts were reserved for those with a bachelor’s degree in ‘other subjects’. However, as the term ‘other subjects’ is misleading, it now says that ‘candidates with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science and other subjects can apply.’ The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has stated that the revised rules will come into effect immediately and all previous instructions will be updated accordingly.
