Additional airfares for fire victims waived for 3 days
The government has waived all additional airfares for the next three days for those affected by the fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital, Civil Aviation and Tourism Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said.
He said this while talking to reporters in front of cargo gate number 8 of Shahjalal Airport on Sunday (October 19) regarding the latest situation.
Sheikh Bashiruddin said, “The fire broke out at 2:15 pm yesterday. Then by 8:30 pm, 37 fire brigade units were able to douse the fire. Damage assessment work is underway. We are trying to determine the extent of the damage and the financial loss. In addition, we are also trying to determine the sector-wise amount.”
He said, “An inter-ministerial meeting has been called today at 3:30 pm to decide what we have to do. Our commitment was to open the airport by 9 pm and we were able to do that. The flight had to be diverted and cancelled around 9 pm. To reduce the inconvenience to the passengers, we have issued an order. Through which we will waive all the expenses of all the non-scheduled flights coming in the next three days.”
Also, we have taken all the responsibility of catering and servicing the passengers. However, despite our efforts, some disruptions may occur. Because, we have to collectively deal with many problems. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to the passengers,” the advisor added.
