Businessman shot in Rupganj after not receiving extortion money

A businessman named Lokman Hossain was shot in the head in Rupganj, Narayanganj. The incident took place in the Karnagop area of ​​Tarabo Municipality of the upazila on Saturday (October 18) afternoon after not receiving extortion money.
The shot businessman Lokman Hossain said that he runs a food and beverage hotel in the area. A few days ago, Shafiqul Islam and his people from the Karnagop area demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh. Otherwise, they threatened to close the business. Later, they were forced to pay Tk 1 lakh.
Later, yesterday afternoon, Shafiqul Islam and his people entered the area on a motorcycle and demanded Tk 4 lakh again. At that time, when he refused to pay the money, they opened fire on him. He was seriously injured in his right leg. When the people around came forward, the terrorists exploded a cocktail, spreading panic in the area. Later, the injured businessman was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
When contacted on mobile phone, Shafiqul Islam denied the extortion and said, “I was not in the area at the time of the incident. A group is deliberately harassing me by filing false allegations and cases.” Rupganj Police Station OC Tariqul Islam said, “Police were sent to the scene after receiving information about the attack and firing. We have not yet received any written complaint in this incident. Further action will be taken if a complaint is received.”
