Dr. Yunus to meet Italian Prime Minister, Press Secretary clarifies
Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus left Dhaka for the Italian capital Rome on Sunday morning (October 12) to attend the flagship event of the World Food Forum. A Bangladesh Biman flight carrying the Principal Advisor and his entourage left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:30 am. According to the itinerary, Muhammad Yunus will address the main session of the forum as an invited guest. He will also hold meetings with heads of various international organizations. Global issues including food security, poverty alleviation and sustainable development will be discussed in these meetings.
Some media outlets reported that he will also meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during this visit. The Principal Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam clarified the matter in a Facebook status last Sunday night.
He wrote, Some newspapers and state news agency BSS reported that the Chief Advisor will meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Rome. However, I would like to clarify that neither BSS nor any other media outlet has spoken to me about this visit.
He further wrote, In a press briefing on Wednesday and later on two television channels, I announced that the Chief Advisor is going to Rome to attend the World Food Forum meeting. I also said that he will attend several important meetings during this visit. But I did not say anywhere that there will be a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister. In fact, there was no such meeting scheduled.
Shafiqul Alam hopes that the media outlets concerned will correct their reports.
