Hostel director arrested for beating DU student
Police have arrested Razia Begum, the director of a private hostel in the capital, ‘Swapnanibas Hostel’, on charges of beating a student of Dhaka University (Dhaka). She was arrested at 10 pm on Tuesday (October 7) from the hostel located next to Tejgaon College.
The victim is a resident of Shamsunnahar Hall of DU for the 2024-25 academic year. He had gone there as a guest of a student of Tejgaon College staying at Swapnanibas Hostel.
The victim told the media on Wednesday, ‘Yesterday, when I went to my friend’s house as my hall was closed, the hostel director abused me in obscene language. Later, when I informed my brother, he went to get me. Then he closed the gate and beat me. Later, after my brother informed the police, the police rescued us from there.’
He said that they have filed a case. However, the victim also alleged that she and her girlfriend were threatened to withdraw from the case. Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Emaul Haque said, “A student of Tejgaon College has filed a case in this incident. The hostel owner has been arrested in the incident. We will take legal action in this regard based on the investigation.”
