Shahidul Alam detained in Israel, video goes viral on social media
The ships and passengers of the new flotilla trying to break the Gaza sea blockade have been detained. Among them is Bangladeshi photographer and writer Shahidul Alam.
After the detention, he published a video on his Facebook ID. In which he said, ‘I am Shahidul Alam. A photographer and writer from Bangladesh. Before watching this video, we were detained at sea. I was kidnapped by the Israeli occupation forces, who are carrying out genocide in Gaza with the active cooperation of the United States and other Western powers. I appeal to all my colleagues and friends to continue the fight for the freedom of Palestine.’
Meanwhile, the Times of Israel reported in a report that the new flotilla trying to break the Gaza sea blockade did not achieve its goal. The ships and passengers of the flotilla were detained and are being taken to an Israeli port.
Israeli Foreign Minister Ezekiel A. (formerly on Twitter) wrote, “Another failed attempt to break the legal naval blockade and enter the war zone has failed. The ship and passengers have been transferred to an Israeli port. All passengers are safe and well. Passengers will be held for immediate departure.”
The incident comes a week after the navy seized more than 40 ships.
The flotilla, known as the Sumud Flotilla, was the largest ever to challenge the Gaza blockade. Israel has expelled most of the 479 activists who took part in the operation, including Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
