GTO chief advisor says no anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh

Principal advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has dismissed as baseless allegations of persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government of Bangladesh. He said, ‘There is no anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh.’
The chief advisor said this in an interview given to New Media GTO journalist Mehdi Hasan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, USA. The interview was published by GTO on Monday (September 29).
Rejecting the allegations of persecution of Hindus, Dr. Yunus said, ‘One of the specialties of India now is fake news.’ Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power in the face of a mass uprising in 2024. Then Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus became the head of the interim government.
Recalling the decision to elect him as the interim head of the people, Dr. “I was surprised,” Yunus said. However, he said he reluctantly accepted.
At that time, he told the protesters, “If you can give up so much, then I will change my decision.”
Dr. Yunus spoke about other issues in the interview, including the rationale for delaying the national elections, the Rohingya crisis, and various issues related to the ban on Awami League activities.
