UP member Sohel, accused in multiple cases, dies in beating

UP member Sohel Ahmed, accused in multiple cases including murder, was beaten to death in Araihazar, Narayanganj.
The incident took place at around 8 am today (September 29) in Baliapara Bazar of Brahmandi Union of the upazila. He was a member of ward number 3 of the union.
The OC of Araihazar Police Station told us that Sohel had established a reign of terror in the area under the umbrella of influential people during the previous Awami League government. After the government fell, he went into hiding. Law enforcement arrested him two and a half months ago.
He also said that after being released on bail recently, Sohel returned to the area and started extortion and drug dealing again. In the morning, when he went to a businessman’s house to collect the extortion money, the locals got angry and beat him up. He died on the spot. At that time, his three accomplices fled.
Police also said that Sohel has 13 cases against him, including murder and robbery. However, the victim’s family claims that Sohel was killed in a planned manner.
