Schoolgirl killed in bus collision, Dhaka-Chittagong highway blocked
A schoolgirl named Srabanti (14) was killed in a bus collision in Gazaria, Munshiganj. The accident occurred at 7:45 am today, Saturday (September 27) in the Baushia area of the highway.
However, immediately after the accident, students blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway demanding the arrest of those involved and safe roads. This stopped traffic on both sides of the highway. Long traffic jams were created. Hundreds of passengers and drivers are suffering. The protest on the highway continued till 11:30 am at the time of writing this report.
The deceased Srabanti is a class 8 student of Gazaria Government Technical School and College and the daughter of Hanif Mia of Charbaushia Barakandi village of Baushia union of the same upazila.
Protesting students said that Srabanti, a class 8 student of Gazaria Government Technical School and College, was run over by a Star Line Paribahan bus in the Baushia area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. She died on the spot. Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gazaria Police Station Anwar Alam Azad told us, “The students have blocked the road in the wake of the student’s death in the bus accident. However, efforts are being made to convince them and find a solution.”
