AL-Chhatra League in Dhaka for disrupting elections, 244 arrested

Police have arrested 244 people from different areas of the capital on charges of organizing a sudden procession and explosion of cocktails by leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and Chhatra League who entered Dhaka to destabilize the national parliament elections. They were detained from different areas including Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Tejgaon, Banani, Uttara. The DMP said that 14 cocktails and 7 banners were recovered from the arrested.
On Wednesday (September 24) afternoon, DMP Additional Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam said that these activities were being carried out to create an unstable environment and spread panic around the elections. Surveillance and raids have been intensified in hotels, flats and hostels to maintain law and order.
On the other hand, former Chhatra League general secretary Ajay Kar Khokon and Iftarul Hasan Swapan, nephew of AL leader Tofail Ahmed, have been arrested and sent to jail on court orders in an anti-terrorism case.
