Earlier, an Emirates flight carrying the chief advisor and his entourage landed at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport at noon local time. When they left the airport with some delay, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir; NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and NCP Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasneem Zara were surrounded by Awami League workers shouting slogans.
The chief advisor’s press wing and some BNP workers tried to evict them along with security guards. At that time, some Awami League and Jubo League workers threw eggs at Akhtar Hossain. They also abused Tasnim Zara in obscene language. In protest, Akhtar raised slogans of “Inquilab Zindabad”. Later, with the help of police, they left the airport area in a car.
