Australian cities call for end to war in Gaza

Thousands of people have protested in more than 20 Australian cities demanding an end to the war in Gaza. Thousands of people marched from the city center of Brisbane on Sunday (August 24) local time across Victoria Bridge. They are demanding an end to the ongoing war in Gaza, a ceasefire and an end to famine and starvation. The protest is one of many protests held across Australia, which is being described as a ‘Day of Action’. More than 20 cities, including the Australian capital, are participating in the campaign. Although the police presence in the cities is noticeable, the entire protest is being held peacefully. It is worth noting that the United Nations declared a famine in Gaza City and its surrounding areas for the first time on Friday (August 22). The current situation in the Gaza Strip has reached the fifth stage of famine. At this stage, many people may die of extreme hunger. This extreme form of famine could spread to other areas, including Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah, by the end of September, putting more than 500,000 people across Gaza at risk of starvation.
