Husband gets life sentence for killing wife in Natore
A court in Natore’s Lalpur upazila has sentenced husband Sirajul Islam to life imprisonment for killing his wife Lata Khatun. He was also fined Tk 50,000 and sentenced to 3 months rigorous imprisonment in default. Additional District and Sessions Judge Sohag Talukder delivered the verdict on Wednesday (August 20) afternoon. The convicted Sirajul is the son of the late Abdus Salam of Old Ishwardi Paschimpara in Lalpur upazila. According to court sources, Sirajul Islam married Lata Khatun, daughter of Helal Uddin of Ram Narayanpur in the same upazila, in 2009. Since the marriage, Sirajul tortured his wife over various family matters. Then on April 27, 2020, Lata Khatun’s body was found in the local Jokadah Battala area. The next day, Lata’s father filed an accidental death case with Lalpur police station. It is also known that at one stage of the investigation, it was learned that Lata Khatun was strangled to death. Later, Lata’s father filed a complaint with Lalpur Police Station, accusing Sirajul Islam. The court accepted the complaint as a case and gave this verdict today after hearing and taking testimony.
