Nasrul Hamid’s bungalow demolished in BIWTA raid
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has demolished the bungalow of former state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid. The agency launched an eviction drive from Katurail in South Keraniganj in the capital on Wednesday (August 20) morning. Joint Director of Dhaka River Port Mustafizur Rahman and AC Land Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun of Keraniganj Police Station are leading the drive. It is learned that BIWTA will conduct drives in Hasnabad, Doleshwar and Katurail of South Keraniganj Police Station. It is seen on the ground that the encroachers have crossed the river boundary and built illegal structures by occupying one to one and a half acres of land. As part of this, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority has conducted a drive at the bungalow of former state minister for power Nasrul Hamid Bipu, which was built by occupying the land of the Katurail River. Officials said that the High Court had ordered the demolition of structures encroaching on the river in 2009, following a writ petition filed in public interest. The demolition drive is being conducted as per the directive. They also said that all illegal structures inside the boundary pillars will be demolished in phases. Law enforcement agencies are present to deal with the unpleasant situation.
