August 21 attack case: Defendant’s side in appeal hearing

The fourth day of the hearing of the appeal filed by the state against the verdict of acquitting all the accused, including BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, in the August 21 grenade attack case has begun. On Wednesday (August 20) morning, the fourth day of the hearing began at the six-judge bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed. On December 1, the High Court acquitted all the accused, including BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, in the case of Murder and Explosives Act in the August 21 grenade attack case. Later, the state appealed against that verdict. On August 21, 2004, a grenade attack took place at a rally of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Bangabandhu Avenue. 24 Awami League leaders and workers were killed in that incident.
