Jamaat donates crores of taka to help with cancer treatment
There are various complaints against the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital in the capital, including suffering in getting medical services and violence by middlemen. Jamaat-e-Islami has held a human chain and protest rally against the hospital’s testing equipment being out of service and various corruptions. At that time, the party announced a donation of crores of taka. Along with this, the protesters also highlighted the issues of recruitment, trade and various corruptions in the administration. The only government hospital specialized in cancer treatment in the country is the ‘National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital’. However, the hospital itself is infected with cancer due to allegations of testing, equipment being out of service and various corruptions in the administration. Starting from not getting services even after paying serials day after day, patients who come for treatment have complained of violence by middlemen in various matters. On Monday (August 18) morning, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists held a human chain and protest rally against these corruptions. During this, they highlighted various inconsistencies in the cancer hospital. They demanded that most of the radiotherapy machines for cancer patients be shut down and that they be immediately activated and all corruption in the hospital be stopped. On this day, Jamaat announced a donation of one crore taka for the development of the hospital. Jamaat’s declared candidate for Dhaka-17 constituency, Dr. SM Khaliduzzaman, said that if Jamaat comes to power, it will be mandatory for political and government bureaucrats to get treatment in the country. Assuring that these irregularities and problems will be resolved, the director of the hospital, Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Kabir, said that it is not possible to start the shut down machines. However, work is underway to purchase new ones. And regular operations are underway against brokers.
