Policeman arrested for leaking ‘shoot-on-sight’ order

A police constable named Ami Das has been arrested on charges of leaking a statement given to the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner on a walkie-talkie. He was arrested by Khulshi Police Station on Sunday (August 17) night. A senior CMP officer confirmed this information to the media. A case has been filed against him under the Official Secrets Act. It is learned that Ami Das is a constable of the police’s telecom unit. He is working at the Khulshi Police Station of the CMP on assignment. On August 12, Commissioner Hasib Aziz gave the order to shoot at sight of armed men to all members of the CMP in a walkie-talkie. He gave this message after an officer of the city’s Bandar Police Station was seriously injured by Awami League leaders and activists. The video of the CMP Commissioner’s message was recorded on a walkie-talkie and circulated on social media. It is worth noting that the leak of the Commissioner’s message left top police officials in Chittagong city uneasy. They were shaken by the fact that their confidential message had been leaked. After that, multiple teams launched an investigation and identified the constable. Following which, Ami Das was arrested.
