White stone looting in Sylhet, ACC begins investigation

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into the horrific looting incident in Sylhet Sadapathar. A nine-member delegation from the ACC visited the Sadapathar tourist center on Wednesday (August 13) afternoon.
They spoke to locals and collected information and data about the looting. Along with the ACC, police and administration officials are also visiting the scene.
The ACC delegation said that an investigation report will be submitted on such looting incidents. Further action will be taken against those found to have irregularities as per the rules. In addition, the local administration needed to be more vigilant in this regard.
According to environmental activists and local businessmen, about 15 million cubic feet of stone were looted in a year, with an estimated market value of more than two billion taka.
Incidentally, the Sadapathar tourist center has become a desert due to horrific looting in the past year. This looting has been going on uninterruptedly since August 5 last year.
