Robbery in university teacher’s car: 2 arrested
The District Detective Branch (DB) has arrested two members of an inter-district robbery gang in a case filed in connection with the kidnapping of a professor of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology in a private car and extorting money. A private car and country-made weapons used in the robbery were recovered during the incident. They were arrested from Kalikapur area under Sadar police station in Patuakhali early on Sunday (August 11). The arrested are Hamidul Howlader (32), son of the deceased Awal Howlader of Uttar Hajikhali area of Patuakhali Sadar upazila, and Rajib Kazi (28), son of Jasim Kazi of Nandipara area of the same upazila. Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Jahangir Alam said that on the evening of June 18, Professor Shahidul Islam, the head of the food and nutrition department of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology, left for the capital Dhaka in a rented private car from Lebukhali in Dumki upazila. Later, a gang of robbers took Shahidul hostage in the private car and extorted 118,000 taka from his family through bKash. In addition, the miscreants snatched 170,000 taka from the teacher. Later, around 10 pm that day, the robbers tied Shahidul’s hands and feet and left him in the Purba Swaramangal area of Rajoir upazila in Madaripur on the Dhaka-Barisal highway. He said that the next day of the incident, the victim filed a case against unknown persons at Rajoir police station. The investigation of the case was given to the district detective police. Hamidul Howlader and Rajib Kazi, who were involved in the incident, were arrested from Kalikapur in Patuakhali with the help of information technology. At that time, knives, knives, hammers and pliers were recovered. A private car used in the robbery was also seized. The detective police are working to arrest the rest of those involved in the incident. The Superintendent of Police also said that there are multiple cases against the arrested Hamidul and Rajib in various police stations across the country, including the capital Dhaka. After the legal process, the two arrested were produced in court on Sunday (August 10) afternoon and the judge ordered them to be sent to jail.
