BNP is a moderate party, not a southern or northern party: Salahuddin Ahmed

Saying that the government’s activities in one year after overcoming various problems and obstacles were not easy – nor could it fulfill the true aspirations of the nation, BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said, BNP is a party of the people, not a southern or northern party. It is a moderate party. He made these comments while exchanging views with journalists at his residence in Gulshan in the capital on Thursday (August 7) afternoon. He also said that if BNP comes to the government later, it will reflect the chief advisor’s concept of running the state. Mentioning that BNP is a moderate party, not a southern or northern party, it is a party of the people, Salahuddin Ahmed said, BNP is working to create an environment where everyone can sit together in the national interest despite ideological differences between political parties. For this, all methods are being discussed. At that time, the nation had more hope from the government, but the government failed to take appropriate steps at the right time at various times, he said, adding that there were more expectations from the government. However, what it has achieved despite various obstacles, it may not have been possible. But the BNP leader also commented that it failed to take all the steps that needed to be taken to control law and order. Terming the sending of the chief advisor’s letter to the Election Commission as the most important step in a year, Salahuddin Ahmed further said, the nation was waiting for this. BNP is satisfied with the progress made in reforms and justice. BNP will adopt the chief advisor’s vision to move the nation forward in the future as well. He expects that laws and regulations will be formulated quickly to conduct the elections. He also said that the elected government will make constitutional reforms related to elections. Salahuddin Ahmed further said, although there is currently no opportunity to change the structure of the police overnight, they must be kept in conducting the elections. However, the army will play a key role. At that time, he also said that where the people want transparent elections, the role of law enforcement will be secondary due to the mentality of the people and the candidates. Meanwhile, an alliance with any like-minded political party can be formed until the schedule is announced, but Salahuddin Ahmed also said that no decision has been made on the alliance yet.
