4 women and 3 children from the same family return dead while welcoming expatriates
Seven members of the same family lost their lives when a microbus lost control and fell into a canal in Begumganj, Noakhali. Four women and three children are among the deceased. The incident took place in the Purba Jagadishpur area of Alaiyapur Union of the upazila early on Wednesday (August 6). Police said that the family members who were going to bring back their expatriate relatives from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka were returning to their home in Chaupalli village in Laxmipur by microbus. On the way, the speeding microbus lost control and fell into a deep canal on the side of the road. While four of the 11 people in the microbus (including the expatriate) managed to get out, the women and children were trapped due to the depth of the water. Upon receiving the news of the accident, the fire service and police reached the spot and started rescue operations. After about an hour and a half of effort, seven bodies were recovered one by one. It is said that all the deceased are members of the same family. Chandraganj Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to Time News, saying that the family members were returning home from Dhaka Airport with Bahar Uddin, an Omani expatriate son of Abdur Rahim of Chaupalli village in Lakshmipur. In the morning, the HIS microbus lost control and fell into a canal in Jagdishpur, East Chandraganj under Begumganj police station in Noakhali. While some managed to get out, the rest were trapped inside and died, he said, adding that seven members of the same family have died. Including women and children. The vehicle has been recovered from the canal. The deceased are – Bahar Uddin’s grandmother Fayezjunesa (80), mother Morshida Begum (55), wife Kabita Begum (24), sister-in-law Laboni Begum (30), niece Reshmi Akhter (8), niece Lamia Akhter (9) and daughter Meem Akhter (2). Assistant Director of Noakhali Fire Service Farid Ahmed said that seven bodies have been recovered. All of them are women and children. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Model Police Station Dewan Liton, who inspected the accident site, said that the news of the death of seven people has been confirmed.
