Awami League leader flees in handcuffs after arrest
In Habiganj’s Baniachong, an accused in the July 9 coup murder case and Kagapasha Union Awami League vice-president Abdul Majid fled in handcuffs after being arrested. On Monday (August 4), Baniachong police arrested him from his home in Batakandi village of the upazila at around 12 noon. He was the defeated chairman candidate of the same union with the boat symbol. According to police sources, Abdul Majid suddenly jumped out of the boat in the haor in front of his home and fled in handcuffs. Upon receiving the information, additional police from Baniachong police station went to surround several nearby villages. However, it was not possible to re-arrest him until the last news was received. Additional Superintendent of Police (Baniachong Circle) Prabas Kumar Singha confirmed the matter.
