Sensation over recovery of Shibir leader’s body in Gaibandha, road blockade
A group of angry people have formed a human chain in front of the Gaibandha Police Superintendent’s office over the recovery of a Shibir leader’s body from a pond near Saghata police station in Gaibandha. After the human chain, the protesters blocked the road in front of the main gate of the Police Superintendent’s office and staged a protest. Relatives of the youth killed in Gaibandha, political party leaders and activists, classmates and ordinary people participated in the human chain on Saturday (July 26). Later, when the road was blocked, the police first tried to calm them down. Later, the protesters lifted the blockade when army members arrived and assured them of an investigation. Gaibandha District Shibir President Md. Rumman Ferdous said, Siju was religious, talented and completely healthy. Such a death of Siju cannot be accepted. What other reasons are behind the snatching of the police rifle and the stabbing inside the police station should be investigated. In this regard, Gaibandha Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Shariful Alam said, “It will be confirmed after the autopsy report whether Siju drowned or was murdered. We are investigating the entire incident seriously. The mystery will be solved soon. The culprits will also be arrested.” It is learned that the deceased youth’s name is Siju Mia. He is the president of the Gidari Union branch of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila of Shibir. His body was recovered by the fire service while floating in the Kachuripana on Friday (July 25) morning. Then he was buried in the family graveyard after the funeral. The allegation against Siju is that he entered the police station and tried to attack the police and steal weapons. The CCTV footage also confirms the police’s allegations. It can be seen that Siju is trying to snatch a constable’s rifle. When some people came to arrest him, he also attacked them. Although it is not clear in the footage, it is claimed that he also stabbed the police. According to the police, Siju bought a stolen mobile phone. After finding out with the help of technology, Siju was called to the police station. He said that he bought the mobile phone from a shop. Based on the information he gave, the police also called the shopkeeper. While collecting information at the police station, Siju started arguing with a policeman. Then he suddenly got angry and started behaving recklessly. At one point, Siju ran out of the police station. That scene was also captured on the CCTV camera. Since then, there has been no trace of him. The next day, his body was recovered from a pond next to the police station.
