Police lathicharge at Secretariat, 30 students injured in DMCH

At least 30 students are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital after being injured in police lathicharge to disperse students who entered the capital’s Secretariat. This information was received from the emergency department of DMCH Hospital on Tuesday (July 22) afternoon. The students started protesting since noon demanding the resignation of Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Education Siddique Jobayer. The students said that they are angry with the decision to postpone the exams at around 3 am. For this, they are demanding the resignation of the Education Advisor and Education Secretary. Strict action will be taken if they do not resign within 24 hours. After that, the students entered the Secretariat through Gate No. 1 at around 3:40 pm. At that time, they vandalized cars, leading to a chase with the law enforcement agencies. The students entered the secretariat and vandalized several cars. The police and army then tried to stop the students. But thousands of students entered the secretariat. At one stage, the law enforcement forces lathi-charged and lobbed sound grenades at the students.
