Father-son killed in Narail land dispute, 1 arrested
Jahangir Sheikh (60) and his son Nahid Sheikh (30) were killed in a clash over a land dispute in Lohagara, Narail. An opponent named Abdul Kader was injured in the incident and is hospitalized in critical condition. Police have arrested an accused named Kabir Sheikh from the scene. The clash took place at Bahirpara Beel in the upazila at around 11:30 am on Wednesday (July 16). Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Md. Shariful Islam confirmed this information to Soyo Sangbad. The deceased Jahangir Sheikh is the son of the deceased Majid Sheikh of Bahirpara village and Nahid Sheikh is his younger son. According to local and police sources, Jahangir Sheikh’s family had been in a land dispute with Kausar Sheikh alias Mandar of Bahirpara village in Kashipur Union for a long time. Despite several arbitration meetings, the case was not resolved. Although the verdict in the case was in favor of Jahangir, the opponent approached the court again. On the morning of the incident, Jahangir went to cultivate the disputed land with his son Nahid. There, after an argument with Kausar and his people, a clash broke out between the two parties. Jahangir was killed on the spot due to sharp weapons. The injured Nahid was rescued and taken to Narail Sadar Hospital. Later, he was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, but died on the way around 4 pm. The other injured Abdul Quader was sent to Khulna. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Md. Shariful Islam told Soyo Sangbad, “Two people were killed in the clash due to a land dispute. One injured person has been sent to the hospital. One person has been arrested. Additional police have been deployed in the area and a drive is being launched to arrest the accused.”
