Former Minister Dastagir Gazi’s assets worth Tk 400 crore seized

On the orders of the court, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police has seized assets worth about Tk 400 crore of former Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi in the Awami League government. This includes about 5,000 percent of land in Rupganj, Narayanganj, a Gazi Tire factory and various other commercial establishments. According to CID sources, Golam Dastagir Gazi has been accused of land grabbing, accepting commission, forgery, fraud, hundi and under-invoice, over-invoice and becoming the owner of huge wealth through organized crime. His seized assets include a total of 4,880 percent of land in 69 documents in the Khadun area of Rupganj. The deed value of these is Tk 165.284 crore. He has various infrastructures including his Gazi Tire company on all these lands. Its value is about Tk 400 crore. Investigations are also underway against Golam Dastagir Gazi and his affiliated companies Gazi Door, Gazi Network, Gazi Tire, Gazi Tank and other institutions. Earlier, on July 8, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court ordered the seizure of these properties following an application by the CID.
