Legal notice to government to restart ‘Peace TV’

A lawyer has sent a legal notice to the government demanding the relaunch of ‘Peace TV Bangla’ run by renowned Islamic speaker Dr. Zakir Naik. Lawyer Md. Ashrafuzzaman sent the legal notice on Sunday (July 13). Peace TV was shut down on the basis of allegations that one of the attackers at the Holey Artisan in Dhaka in July 2016 was a follower of Zakir Naik and was inspired by his speeches. However, after the July coup, Dr. Zakir Naik said in a question and answer session on his YouTube channel on August 19 that Peace TV is operating in Bengali, English, Urdu and Chinese. Satellite broadcasting has never been stopped. It is only because the cable operators in Bangladesh and India have withdrawn the permission for Peace TV’s downlink that it has been shut down. He further said that although it is being launched via satellite, since broadcasting on cable networks is closed in Bangladesh, the process of launching it is ongoing. An application has been made. If the interim government of Bangladesh gives permission, it will be launched in a few days or weeks.
